About the Book
100 Reality Checks includes a set of alternatives to many popular assumptions and sayings, including maxims, axioms, proverbs, quotes, prevailing theories and the like. The point of its reality checks is that you need not pretend anything said or assumed is true just because it sounds or feels good. If you develop the habit of funding your own reality checks, your mental wealth will flourish.
Unlike many books that are intended to be helpful, this one is not a bore. Instead, it’s a picture book, oriented horizontally like a check book. It’s organized into the following chapters, each with a different artistic look: Positivity and Negativity; Success; Career and Business; Love and Relationships; Health; Beauty; Parenting and Children; Resolving Problems; Role Models and Leaders; Teams; Faith; Truth and Sincerity; One-Offs; and Quantity and Quality. But don’t worry about organized reading. You can open up 100 Reality Checks and read from any page, just like any good coffee-table book.
Despite its 100 Reality Checks title, this book does not presume there is only one truth or reality. It does, however, acknowledge that too many people spend too much time deceiving themselves and others, often unintentionally. Somewhere inside each of us is a compass that tells us what is true and real. Life can be simpler when we get in touch with that compass. Consequently, this book is designed to help you develop the habit of questioning the amount of truth invested in things you’re told and subsequently pass on to others. The hope is that developing that habit will empower you to address life’s complexities more effectively.
About The Author
Based in Southern California, David E. Libman, Esq., LL.M. is an attorney whose firm has a not-so-clever business name: Law Office of David E. Libman, APC. In his years of practice as both a litigator and transactional lawyer, David has learned for himself – and from clients and adversaries – that getting real about what people claim or assume to be true can be an immensely valuable habit – hence, his 100 Realty Checks.
Like many attorneys, David has prestigious degrees and accolades, which you can read about at www.DavidELibman.com. Unlike many attorney attorneys, David began his career as professional musician after graduating from The Juilliard School. For years, David made his living (and sometimes hardly made a living) playing drums at Jazz clubs, parties, sometimes on television, sometimes on recordings – and every now and then at large venues.
As an author, David has had many legal articles published; he’s published a drum set instructional book; and for more than ten years, he has been a contributing writer to DRUM! Magazine. You can find a list of David’s publications at www.DavidELibman.com.
David is fortunate to have been married to the love of his life, Andrea, since 1996. Andrea is the designer/owner of Ange Libby purses. Andrea and David have two incredible sons: Mathieu, a soon-to-be graduate of California Institute of the Arts, who did much of the artwork for 100 Reality Checks; and Joel, who attends Sonoma State. In his spare time, David likes to play the ukulele and find good coffee.
David is available for interviews and to give presentations regarding his 100 Reality Checks. For more information – of if you just want to drop David a line – use the contact form below.
